Corruption is the greatest enemy of development. Especially in Nigeria, corruption has been a cause of colossal devastation to the economic growth. This has formed a loose stereotypical image of Nigerians in public eye.

In a bid to purge corrupt practices and curb rampant cyber crime rate, the Federal Government has tasked the EFCC to investigate unscrupulous financial activities and make arrest.

The suspect is arraigned before a judge who would set a hearing date. If found guilty, the suspect is prosecuted to the full extent of the law. It is on this footing the EFCC was established.

When the need arises, the EFCC opens their recruitment portal for interested and qualified candidates to apply to join this agency whose primary aim is to eradicate financial crimes in Nigeria.

The EFCC recruits citizens who have no criminal records. But above all, patriotic Nigerians, who would give their best in service to Nigeria our beloved country.


Having understood what the EFCC is all about and what your functions will be when you are finally recruited let us now move over to what is required of every applicant.

To apply for the exercise, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. You must not be more than 27 years of age
  2. As a male applicant, your height must be up to 1.67 meters and 1.64 metres for female applicants.
  3. Applicants are required to be single.
  4. Male applicants must have a chest measurement of up to 34 inches
  5. Applicants must have good hearing ability, proper eye sight and be mentally sound.
  6. You must be medically sound (having no recent surgery or any sort of respiratory disorder).
  7. Applicants should have no tattoos of any form on their body.
  8. You must have clean criminal record and you must not belong to any cult or a terrorist group.
  9. Candidates are not required to be drug addicts.


The Economic and Financial Crime Commission has the mission to get rid of economic and financial crimes in Nigeria and to garner local efforts in the global war against money laundering and financing of terrorists.

The list of the functions they perform:

  • To investigate financial crimes
  • They confiscate and freeze properties and funds respectively, recovered from dubious people.
  • The EFCC draw plans and come out with ways to fight corruption in Nigeria.
  • To eliminate corruption in the commission.
  • Measure the individual’s financial worth.
  • Collaborate with the government and international bodies to bring corrupt people to book.
  • They identify and arrest suspects charged of financial corruption.
  • The EFCC also carry out research on the best practices for fighting and curbing financial crimes.
  • They handle all issues relating deportation and extradition of individuals charged of financial crime.


The various positions available vary with academic qualifications. The available positions are:

Detective Assistant: Added to the above requirements, you must possess a minimum of SSCE certificate.

Detective Inspector: You should have at least and OND or HND.

Graduate Cadre: This cadre is for graduates who have completed their NYSC or having the NYSC exemption certificate.

Diploma Cadre: This cadre is for candidates who have the diploma certificates.


  • To apply for the exercise, you have to first log on to the official website and download the application form. You will see in the application form the various locations that will be used for the recruitment exercise.
  • You will have to go to the recruitment location with your application letter, CV, 2 passport photographs and documents proving the above requirements.
  • Submit your application and wait for the shortlist.


When is the recruitment starting?

Currently, the EFCC is not recruiting and there is no official statement about when the recruitment will start. The 2020 exercise has not started, but to stay updated with information about the recruitment, do well to subscribe to this websites.

How does EFCC track someone?

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission work with devices powered by sophisticated technologies that aid them in their work. They also have detectives and they also work with the whistle blowers. The EFCC also work with Google Maps, tracker and with the banks.

What is the salary scale of officials?

The EFCC is a Federal government agency. Therefore EFCC officials can earn a salary of up to N1.5 million or higher, depending on your rank or level in the service. Their salary is more or less unconfirmed.

To begin with, EFFC is an acronym which stand for Economic and Financial Crime Commission. It was established in 2003 under the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The EFCC was established to fight money laundry and other financial crimes in Nigeria. It is believed that it was formed as a response to the pressure mounted by the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering.

(FATF), an international organization based in France instituted to combat money laundering. This organization had listed Nigeria as one of the 23 countries that wouldn’t cooperate to fight financial crimes.

EFCC headquater is located at the No.5 Fomella Street, Off Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent Wuse II, Abuja. The current chairman (Acting Chairman) of the EFCC is Ibrahim Magu.
