The story of unemployment in Nigeria is a roller coaster. Things seem to go from bad to worse but the Naija spirit no go allow us fail.

With the introduction of the N-Power program, youths can now make ends meets while they get themselves acquainted with skills that will get them employed.

The program empowers up to 500,000 Nigerian youths, both graduates and non graduates with jobs and training annually. In a nutshell, the program is designed to soak up the teeming unemployed Nigerian youth population.

In this post, I hope to reveal to you everything you need to know about the recruitment and application process.


The first thing you would want to know is what N-Power really is and how it started. With the discovery that skills in youths are key drivers of economic growth and social development.

The Federal government of Nigeria introduced the initiative to foster these skills development.

It was initiated in August 2016 by the Buhari led administration. The program focuses on developing in Nigerian youths profitable skills that will gainfully employ them.

The program is in line with the provisions of FG policies in the economic, employment and social development arenas.

As it provides structure for the acquisition of large scale and relevant work skills, it also links its outcomes to fixing inadequate public services to provide


The N-Power standard program is designed in such a way that participants will acquire skills that will enable them either find work or create one.

The Volunteer Corp, one of the programs under graduate categories is aimed at deploying about 500,000 trained graduates to assist in the improvement of Nigeria’s public service inadequacies.

The areas of public service include education, health and civic education. Some will also be deployed into the agricultural sector to help actualize Nigeria’s aspiration of food security and self reliance.

Graduate beneficiaries will also be trained in relevant skills in software development, hardware servicing, animation, IT skills and many other skills.

The non-graduates will be trained in many technical skills in order to give them lift to a better standard of living.


The volunteer corps is an N-Power program under the graduate category. It enrolls qualified Nigerians between the ages of 18 to 35. As a beneficiary of this program, you will be volunteering for two years.

You will be paid during your volunteering period and you will also be handed computer devices to aid you in your work. You will be deployed to volunteer in any public service institution in communities near you.


The N-Power Agro recruits up to 100,000 qualified youths. If you are chosen for this category of the program, you will serve as extension workers to farmers across the country.

You will disseminate the latest agricultural development to local farmers and also gather necessary data of Nigeria’s agricultural asset.

To benefit from this, you must be a holder of Bachelor’s degree, HND or OND in any agricultural related course.

This program also lasts for two years and you will undergo proper training before you begin. You will be awarded National Skills Qualification certificate at the end of your program.


The Teach program supplements the delivery of basic education across the country. As a volunteer under this category, your job will be to improve the delivery of basic education across Nigeria. You will serve as assistant teacher in primary schools around the country.

The Teach volunteers are selected from graduates from Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Bearers’ of Bachelors Degree, HND, OND and NCE are qualified to apply.

The program duration is also two years at the end of which you will be given the National Skills Qualification certificate.


The Health department recruits young graduates to help promote preventive healthcare in their communities.

These healthcare volunteers will provide treatment and healthcare services to the members of the community of which pregnant women and children are included.

To be qualified for this program, you must bear a degree in health science like Medicine, Public Health, Nursing and so on. You can also have a degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Botany, Biotechnology etc.

You may also be a graduate of School of Health Technology, a Midwifery School, a Polytechnic or University in order to be eligible.


Tax is another N-power department that deploys young graduates into assisting the government to admonish citizens on the need to pay their taxes.

Their job is to encourage non-compliant and partially compliant taxpayers to voluntarily declare their correct income.

At least 3,700 graduates will be absorbed by N-Power under this category of the program. These graduate volunteers will work as community tax liaison officers in their various states.

They will also work with the state’s tax authority. Your job also as a volunteer will be to answer online inquiries and manage customers.

You must be a graduate with certificate in either of the courses: Economics, Psychology, Law, Account and Finance. Other social science courses are allowed.

You must have completed your NYSC and still between the ages of 18 to 35. You must also have good spoken and written English skills and must know how to use the Microsoft Offices tools.

Just like others, the program end in two years. The N-Power non-graduate programs include the following:


Since the driving force of the initiative is to build a knowledge driven economy, the N-Power Knowledge is created to train participants in various skills.

At the end of the program, it is expected that the participants utilize the knowledge so gathered to become entrepreneurs, employees or even freelancers.

This program is comprised of N-Power creative, Tech Hardware, Tech Software


The N-Power Creative is designed to train up to 5000 young Nigerians in creative skills like animation, graphic design and script writing. This will position Nigeria on the global radar as an exporter of world-class services and conceptual contents.

The N-Power Creative training period is 3 months. One month will be set aside for training and the remaining two months will be for group projects.

Some participants will also be opportune to get local and international internship opportunities. The participants will also receive computing devices to aid them in the training period.


The Tech Hardware department is set to empower up to 10,000 technicians and equip them with the skills and tools which will in turn boost the servicing and manufacturing industry.

The selected participant will be put under hand-on training where they will assemble and repair devices of different specifications.

This program is set to take three months of intense training and one month of assessment and graduation. To be selected for this program, you must be between the ages of 18 to 35.

You can either be a graduate of non graduate ready to be under self-tutorship.


The software department will train up to 10,000 graduates and non graduates in software development and push them into the ICT industry.

The participants will be trained to serve both in the local and international software development market.

Participants will only be selected if they are detail oriented, analytical, and ready to undergo self-tutorship and are unemployed graduates and non graduates. The training period is also 3 months.


This N-Power program will engage 75,000 young unemployed Nigeria youths. This is to build in the country highly skilled and competent workforce that will include technicians, artisans and service professionals.

The areas the program will focus are: Construction, Building Services, Utilities, Automotive, Aluminum and Gas and Built Environment services.


The target of N-Power program is to empower the working population; so only youths between the ages of 18 to 35 are taken. Outside meeting the age requirements, you must also need the following requirements to stand a chance:

  • You must show genuine interest in a particular area
  • You must pass the relevant test
  • You must be ready to move to a different location
  • You must be ready to allow yourself be under tutorship.


You require the following documents to complete your N-Power application process:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Bank Verification Number (BVN)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • School Leaving Certificates
  • Valid and Accessible email address
  • Valid phone number
  • A nationally accepted means of identification
  • Bachelors Degree, HND, OND or NCE certificates


After the application process come the aptitude test. This is done to ascertain if you met the qualifications you claim. This is also done to test your thinking ability.

It is done according to the category for which you applied. Do not miss the aptitude test because you stand more chance to be selected when you pass.

After the aptitude test comes the physical verification test. Do show at the designated physical verification center if you want to be selected. This physical verification is done to make sure you really have the documents you claim t have.
