The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) is one out of the two biggest Nigerian military universities. The other is the Nigerian Army University, located at Biu, in Borno State. The latter was established in 2018.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian defense academy was established in February 1964, following the reformation of the British-run Royal Military Forces Training College (RMFTC).

It was first given the name Nigerian Military Training College (NMTC) on independence.

In the beginning, the academy started out with only 62 cadets, but today the military training college has about 3,500 students. Their goal is to train the young officer cadets in learning, character, discipline and leadership skills according to international practices.
