It is the duty of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA to check the cultivation, processing or manufacturing, marketing, including the exportation and trafficking of hard drugs in Nigeria.
They are positioned at the portals of the country: international airports, seaports and borders, to make sure every product entering or leaving the country is free of hard drugs.

REQUIREMENTS FOR NDLEA RECRUITMENT

AVAILABLE POSITIONS AND THEIR REQUIREMENTS
There are two cadres into which interested candidates can be recruited. The two cadres however have different requirements, and they are below stated:
NARCOTIC OFFICER CADRE:
This cadre is only for graduates who have Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in relevant disciplines. Candidates applying into this cadre must also meet the following requirements:
- Candidates interested in the position of Narcotic Officer Cadre must not be less than 22 years of age and not more than 30 year old.
- You must have Bachelor’s degree or HND from any tertiary institution recognized by the Federal Ministry of Education.
- Those applying as a doctor or lawyer must not only have their Bachelor’s degree certificate, they must also present professional certificate in their respective fields.
NARCOTIC ASSISTANT CADRE (NASS)
- This cadre is open to any applicant who has completed secondary school or possesses OND or NCE.
- Applicants under the Narcotic Assistant Cadre must not be less than 18 years of age but not more than 30 years old.

What is the duty of the Narcotic Officer?
The duty of the Narcotic officer is to investigate every narcotic related crime amongst other drug trafficking crimes with variety of techniques and resources. He is assisted by the Narcotic Assistant Officer.
What is the duty of the Agency?
Their main duty is the enforcement of drug laws. It is an agency responsible for the investigation, arrest and prosecution of offenders found wanting in terms drug trafficking in Nigeria.
What is the punishment for drug trafficking in Nigeria?
In 1984, the Decree No. 29 was passed to proscribe death penalty for those involved in drug trafficking. But the decree was later adjusted to between two year imprisonment and lifetime imprisonment depending on the weight of the drug offence.
When was the body founded?
It was founded in the year 1990 after the Decree number 48 was passed in 1989. The headquarter is located in Lagos Nigeria.
Who is the chairman?
The current chairman of the NDLEA Agency is Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah. He was appointed in 2016 by President Muhammadu Buhari.
What are ranks and salary of officers?
The NDLEA officers are ranked based on their Grade Level. They are also paid according to their grade levels and according to the Consolidated Paramilitary Salary Scale (CONPASS). The entry level for graduates in Grade Level 8, and they receive an estimated amount of N74, 000 per month.
