The programme offers four-tier of scholarship programmes and they include:

  1. Post Primary Scholarship
  2. Undergraduate scholarship
  3. Overseas Post Graduate Scholarship
  4. Internally Displaces Persons (IDP) Scholarship


The post primary scholarship scheme is aimed at supporting high performing primary six pupils in the company’s host community and other oil producing states in their secondary school education, uninterruptedly.

This scheme which started out in 2012 with just 28 kids has to day risen to a programme which about 172 have benefitted from since 2015.

Prospective pupils are admitted onto the scheme, following their performance at the annual National Examination Council’s Common Entrance Examinations.


Every prospective beneficiary of this programme must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • You must be an indigene of NLNG host community or an oil producing state in Nigeria.
  • Interested candidates should be in either Basic 5 or 6.
  • Applicants must present their Basic 5 results
  • The pupils must present an attestation letter signed or stamped by their Head Teacher of their school. The contact information of the teacher should be provided in the letter
  • Pupils will also present an indigene confirmation letter signed by the Community Development Council (CDC) chairman or the Chief in their community.
  • Interested candidates are also required to present Letter of identification from their Local Government Coucil.
  • The pupil must not be a child or ward of an NLNG staff.

The undergraduate scholarship is one of the critical components of the company’s education intervention programme which was launched in 1998 only to help the host communities. In 2003, it was opened to the rest of Nigerians.

Since the start of this scholarship programme, about 2,833 students across Nigerian universities have benefitted. The company also claims it has spent over 600 million naira in the programme.

The value of the NLNG undergraduate grant runs between NGN 100, 000 to NGN 300, 000 and it is given every year to awardees throughout their study years.


To apply you must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must have excellent or very good O’ Level results, perhaps from your WASCE, NECO or GCE, obtained in ONE sitting.
  • You must have also scored high in your JAMB examination
  • Applicants must also be fulltime undergraduates, in their first year in any accredited Nigerian University.
  • Candidates must not be beneficiaries of other scholarships awarded by other companies or organizations.
  • Applicants must not be a spouse, child o ward of any staff at the NLNG Company.

NOTE: Applicants must scan and upload the following documents during the scholarship application:

  • Recent and clear passport sized photograph
  • WASCE or NECO result
  • JAMB result slip
  • The University admission letter
  • Your University student ID card
  • Your LGA identification letter or certificate.

The overseas scholarship was launched in October, 2012. The programme take 15 beneficiaries annually to go study in leading United Kingdom Universities.

The value of the grant ranges between NGN9 million to NGN11 million, depending on the course of study and the duration of the course also.

The disciplines covered are:

  • Accountancy
  • Economics
  • Geology
  • Engineering
  • Information Technonlogy
  • Environmental Studies
  • Banking
  • Law
  • Medicine


  • Applicants must have provisional admission from any of the under-listed UK universities to study any of the above listed courses: University of Aberdeen, University of Manchester and the University of Cranfield.
  • Interested applicants must be students who made a minimum of 2nd Class Upper Division, in their first degree from any relevant course.
  • Applicants must have also completed their NYSC programme
  • Interested applicants must have obtained an IELTS score of not less than 8.0
  • Applicants must also not be more than 30 years old at the time of application
  • They must be residents of Nigeria and are Nigerians
  • Applicants are required to present their LGA identification letter
  • If any applicant is working already, he/she must present a letter of consent from their employer.
  • Applicants must have international passport valid for travel. For at least one year from the following year.
  • They must provide evidence that they are ready to travel in September, if selected.
  • Applicants must also not be direct relatives to any staff at NLNG Company.


Interested applicants are required to log on to the scholarship application portal and fill their details in the required fields.

They are to scan and upload the following documents:

  • Their International passport bio-data page
  • Their first degree certificate
  • NYSC Discharge Certificate
  • IELT results
  • Provisional Admission letter from any of the universities mentioned above
  • LGA identification letter


The IDP scholarship is set to support the federal government’s plan to rebuild the North Eastern part of Nigeria, by awarding 30 scholarships to Internally Displaced Persons from the affected states: Borno, Adamawa and Yobe.

10 students from the each of the IDP camps will therefore be awarded the scholarship. This scholarship was set to take through secondary school and post secondary school studies.


NLNG simply means Nigeria Liquefied and Natural Gas. It is a Nigerian liquefied natural gas (LNG) producing company that has its producing plant in Bonny Island, River State.

This Nigerian company was incorporated as a limited liability company on May 17, 1989 and charged with the duty of producing natural gas for export. NLNG started producing and exporting natural gas since 1999.

The scholarship however, is one of the social responsibility programmes carried out by the company. This educational social responsibility programmes is set to empower eligible Nigerians, through Secondary, University and Post graduates studies.
