  • Applicants must possess a minimum of OND in Nautical Science or Marie Engineering

  • Applicants should have the knowledge of ICT
  • Applicants must be between the ages of 20 to 27 years.

PILOT TRAINEE

Requirements:

  • Applicants must possess a minimum of OND in Nautical Science or Marie Engineering
  • Applicants should have Seafarers Medical fitness
  • Candidates are required to have their O’ Level certificates
  • Applicants should have the knowledge of ICT
  • Applicants must be between the ages of 20 to 27 years.

SIGNALMAN-IN-TRAINING

Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a minimum of O’ Level certificate with at least 5 credits in science subjects. Mathematics and English Language must be among the subjects with the credits.
  • Only applicants who obtained their certificate in the past 8 years will be considered for this position.
  • Applicants who have the knowledge of ICT will have an upper hand.
  • The required age for this position is between 18 to 25 years.

MARINE OFFICER

Requirements:

  • Applicants must possess a minimum of OND in Nautical Science or Marie Engineering
  • Applicants should have Seafarers Medical fitness
  • Candidates are required to have their O’ Level certificates
  • Applicants who have the knowledge of ICT will have upper hand.
  • Applicants must be between the ages of 22 to 35 years.

SENIOR MARINE OFFICER/ENGINEER

Requirements:

  • Applicants should have Class 2 Certificate of Competency (Deck), Chief Mate Unlimited or 1st Mate Certificate.
  • Applicants must provide mandatory certificates like birth certificate, state of origin certificate and so on.
  • Applicants should have Seafarers Medical fitness
  • The required age of applicants is between 25 to 35 years.

RADIO OFFICER II

Requirements:

  • Applicants should possess a degree or HND from Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or in Information Technology.
  • Applicants must also have Standard for Training Certification and Watch Keeping (STCW’ 95).
  • Have Global Maritime Distress Safety System (GMDSS)
  • Applicants should have 10 years Cognate Experience for this position
  • Applicants should be between the ages of 23 to 35 years.

ASSISTANT MANAGER RADIO

Requirements:

  • Applicants should possess a degree or HND from Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or in Information Technology.

  • Applicants for this position must have the minimum requirements of B. Sc or HND in Social Sciences and Humanities.
  • Aside from the above qualification, applicants can also possess IFE Level 4 Certificate in Fire Science and Fire Safety.
  • The required age of applicants is between 22 to 35 years.

ASSISTANT MANAGER HARBOUR

Requirements:

  • Applicants should have Class 1 Certificate of Competency (Deck) Unlimited.
  • Applicants must provide mandatory certificates like birth certificate, state of origin certificate and so on.
  • Applicants should have Seafarers Medical fitness
  • The required age of applicants is between 25 to 35 years.
  • Applicants must have the ability to swim.

HISTORY

The federal government agency that governs and operates the various ports of Nigeria is the Nigerian Ports Authority. It could be simply put that the NPA regulates the ports industry of Nigeria.

It was founded in 1954 and the agency has its headquarters at 26/28 Marian Lagos State.

It is headed by a managing director and the current managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority is Hadiza Bala Usman.

The agency controls six ports which include:

  1. Lagos Port Complex, Lagos
  2. Tin Can Island Port, Lagos
  3. Calabar Port
  4. Delta Port
  5. Rivers Port
  6. Onne Port, River State

The Nigerian Ports Authority works with the Federal Ministry of Transport and the Nigeria Shipper’s Council.

In 2005, the inefficiency of the agency was checked by initiating a ports reform programme. Through that reform, about 24 terminals were giving to private operators while the NPA serve as the overseers, providing user facilities, technical oversight and other marine services.
