Well, that is not the case now. But before you choose to work with the Nigeria Prisons Service (Now Nigeria Correctional Service), you must be well prepared: to be hardened when the scenario arises and to be tender when the need be.

Here are the general requirements you must meet in order to be absorbed into the Nigeria Prison Service system:

  • Candidates must be Nigerians by birth.
  • Candidates must possess the required academic qualification needed for the each available position.
  • Applicants must be fit in all terms; a medical report from a recognized hospital proving this must be presented therefore.
  • Applicants must be individuals who have provable good character; they must not have been convicted of any criminal offence by any court of law.
  • Applicants must not belong to any occult group, secret society or be a drug addict and so on.
  • Financially embarrassed individuals are advised not to apply.
  • The accepted age range for the Nigeria Prison Service recruitment is from 18 to 30 years.
  • Male applicants are expected to be up to 1.65 meters in height while female applicants must be up to 1.60 meters.
  • The chest of male applicants must measure up to 0.87 meters.
  • In order to have a better chance, you should be computer literate.


The application process for the recruitment is carried out via their official recruitment website.

  • Login to the website at www.prisons.gov.ng and click on the job advert button
  • You will be taken to the application page (http://recruit.prisonportal.com.ng/recruit), where you will fill your details in the application form.
  • Submit your application when you have filled the form and uploaded the needed documents.
  • Print your referee forms and other printouts. The Referee forms must be completed as you are instructed.

These Referee forms will be submitted at the screening venue.

Well, here below are the functions of the Nigeria Prisons Service (Now Nigeria Correctional Service):

  1. Their first primary duty is to take custody of convicts legally detained.

  3. The Nigeria Prisons Service train convicts in various skills that will make them useful when they get out of prison.
