The foundation of Police Academy Wudil, Kano State has a long history as it dates back into 1981 when Nigeria government requested for the British government to handle the training needs of the Nigeria police. The British government heeded to their request and sent three British officers.

In 1988, the Nigerian Police Academy was officially set up simultaneously at two temporary campuses:

  1. The police training school Challawa, Kano State where cadet inspectors were trained.
  2. The police college Kaduna, where cadet ASPs (Assistant Superintendent of Police) were trained.

On 2nd April, 1996, the school were commissioned and they were merged to its permanent site in Wudil, Kano State. On that time, General Sani Abacha, the then Head of State and commander-in-chief of army forces wished that the academy will also be offering a degree awarding courses.

And just as the expectation would be, in 2012, the federal government of Nigeria made some advancement and the Nigeria Police academy Wudil, Kano became a degree awarding institution.
